INPIRATIONS
For this level, I wanted to start working on a passion project of mine I had been working visually on and off for some time. The project is called Berserk Ascension and my goal for it is to make a Beat Them All/Sidescroller/Roguelite. It is set in a dark fantasy viking world. For this level specifically here, I took inspirations from Icelandic landscapes along with some references from the game Thrine
In my idea for this game, there would be at least 9 levels, for the 9 realms of the Norse Mythology. For this assignment, I would concentrate on the beginning. This level would be what could be the realm of Niflheim.
ASKING QUESTIONS
Something I like to do when preparing my ideas is to ask me some simple questions that I answer with concepts that will guide me through making my levels:
WHO◽WHEN◽WHERE◽WHAT◽WHY◽HOW
Here are the answers I gave myself to guide me:
WHO: Hermod. a dead warrior dad
WHEN: Viking Era (Fantasy)
WHERE: Helheim (Niflheim)
WHAT: Go to the Halls of Hell to make a deal with the Goddess
WHY: He needs to get to Valhalla before his son
HOW: Traversing Niflheim and defeating monsters (beat them all up!)
PLACES TO VISIT
After some research, I decided I would integrate 3 interesting areas in my level:
1. Nastrond | The Corpse Shore
2. Hvergelmir | The Boiling Spring
3. The Halls of Hel

"WOWING" THE PLAYER

The Corpse Shore where deceased crashed into Helheim

The Boilling Spring. Where all waters rise, the source of numerous rivers.
